As a regular skier and hiker, I spend a lot of time driving on I-70 between Denver and the mountains.
As Coloradoans know, the stretch between Denver and Silverthorne/Frisco tends to jam up quite frequently
due to heavy traffic, both in summer and winter months.
CDOT (Colorado Department of
Transportation) has placed variable message signs along the congested sections of road to try to
inform drivers how long their travel time should be, and also places traffic camera images on their
website.
In an attempt to expand on their offerings, I've created this page which displays all of the key traffic
cameras along the more congested sections of road, and the following pages as well:
I-70 Traffic Camera Image Timelapse - take a look at images
from the I-70 traffic cameras over the past week to see when jams occurred, when the road
conditions may have degraded, etc.
I-70 Traffic Drivetime Statistics - a chart that displays
I-70 drivetime (between Denver and Frisco) as a function of date and time. This chart is
handy to see what time is best to leave Denver or a ski area to avoid the longest traffic
jam.
I welcome any additional comments and questions - hopefully these tools will make your drive a tad more
pleasant! Feel free to drop me an email at
