This page shows the traffic patterns between Denver, Colorado and Frisco, Colorado along I-70. The primary motivation for creating this page was to analyze when traffic tends to peak (so one can avoid it). In the winter months, traffic tends to peak along this route in the morning around 8am and in the evening around 4pm; these times coincide with the ski area lift operation times. The summer traffic patterns are a bit more sporadic but traffic is higher on Fridays and Sundays as people escape the city to head to the mountains.
The data displayed above is collected every 15 minutes from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). CDOT has placed sensors along the interstate which collect vehicle speeds along various segments of the road (a good description of how they collect their data can be found here.) Occasionally, their data is missing points or just flat out wrong...so do take the data shown above with a grain of salt.
