American Museum of Natural History - Discovery Room (February 2009)

The Discovery Room consists of several activity areas seperated from one another by half walls, displays and tables. A staff member monitored access while other staff facilitated activities and reset activities. As a result the room always had a "perfect" look to it.

Entrance Desk - a staff member lets people in (the door is kept locked) and keeps track of numbers. Other staff members (1-4 depending on business) roam through the room, answering questions, facilitating activity and resetting materials.

According to a staff member this is one of the favorite activities of younger kids because of the sound it makes. I observed kids lifting up the sections just for fun and caregivers helping them play memory.
