Pikes Peak Climb (14,110 feet)
On a whim, I decided it was time to climb Pikes Peak - the mountain I grew up under (since it sits immediately west of Colorado Springs).

My friend Lonny (with whom I've now done 3 Fourteeners with) and I decided to approach Pikes Peak from an area known as the Crags (back by Divide, or northwest of the peak), as that route was significantly shorter than the famous Barr Trail, which ascends 7,000 feet up the eastern face of the mountain over 13 miles one way.

In the end, our "shorter" trek was still 4,000 feet of elevation gain over a round trip of 13.5 miles - some extremely challenging.

Yes - we could've driven to the top (and I have numerous times), but it was really all worth it when some tourist asked us, "Did you guys WALK up here?"
