Mt. Massive Climb (14,421 ft)

I decided that I couldn't let my leg fitness go to waste after hiking through Snowmass and 5 other 14ers this summer, so I called my buddy Lonny and asked if he was interested in bagging another peak with me. Mt. Massive was a significant challenge, so we decided on that.

The problem with Massive is that, well, it's massive. It has more area about 14,000 ft than any other peak in the lower 48! The standard route up the mountain is 13.6 miles round trip - a very long day.

Rather than taking the standard route, Lonny and I decided to be rather masochistic and do a shorter ascent route that added another 700 feet to the hike by climbing over a total of 4 summits.

This route gave us a challenge, but also let us approach Massive from a very isolated angle, tackling very lonely peaks along the way.

The hike tested our stamina, but we had a great time and the weather seemed to cooperate!
